Tech Services Emergency Response

Service:

Substation, Technical Services

Location:

Maryland

Date:

Spring 2025

Scope

Quick mobilization to assess and repair a transformer bushing issue, to re-energize a substation.

One of our customers experienced a bushing failure at a substation in Maryland, following work performed by another contractor. With a planned outage underway and no available support, the customer team was in a bind as they faced the real possibility of missing their re-energization deadline.

The full Tech Services team arrived on-site just two days later and quickly diagnosed the problem: the draw lead on the bushing had been installed improperly. From there, they removed the bushing, opened the transformer tank, drained a portion of the oil, and began the repair.

The customer remained on-site throughout the process and expressed their appreciation for Service Electric’s professionalism, transformer expertise, safety practices, and attention to detail. They were especially impressed with the team’s use of hold points for documentation, review, and engineering authorization. The crew remained on-site through the evening to ensure all bushings tested correctly, ultimately allowing the customer to successfully re-energize on schedule.

This emergency response exemplifies the skill, professionalism, and responsiveness of our Tech Services team.
