Scope
Service Electric crews safely completed a critical high-side reconductoring at Georgia Power’s Deptford Substation, upgrading to double-conductor 1590 to meet rising demand from the utility’s largest customer.
Service Electric crews recently completed a critical outage at the Deptford Substation, which supplies power to utility’s largest customer. With everything in the area tied to a single transmission line, this was a high-stakes project where any failure could have been detrimental to the system.
The job called for fully reconducting the station’s high side to support the customer’s growing energy demands. The team was given five days to get it done, including switching the station out. They ultimately delivered the completed station safely in just three days.
In March, the crew began prep work, staging materials, and building a conductor. When the planned outage began on April 12, three more crews joined the effort.
Support from Superintendent Wendel King, General Foremen Jeff Lane and Donald Crawley, welders Matt Mako and Wayne Rhodes, and mechanics Thomas Beavers and Richard Chaney helped make the job a success.
