Substation Construction Supervisor – Puerto Rico

POSITION SUMMARY

The Supervisor, Substation Construction is responsible for leading and directly supervising field execution of substation construction activities within a designated region of Large Projects. This role ensures all work is performed safely, efficiently, and in full compliance with design and quality standards, delivering installations that are complete, correct, and ready for testing without rework.

The Supervisor is accountable for enforcing strict standards of safety, workmanship, productivity, and professional conduct. This role drives a culture of zero rework, strong field discipline, and consistent execution, while ensuring seamless coordination with Protection & Controls, apparatus testing, and other adjacent teams to support successful energization.

This position is based in Puerto Rico. Housing and transportation will be provided. The role includes rotational travel to the continental United States every six to eight weeks.

POSITION FUNCTIONS

  • Accountable for safety, productivity, and quality of all substation construction activities
  • Leads with visible safety ownership, enforcing JHAs, stop-work authority, and safe work practices at all times
  • Supervises crews and foremen to ensure adherence to work plans, schedules, and jobsite expectations
  • Enforces strict standards for safety compliance, work quality, and professional conduct
  • Addresses safety and performance issues immediately through coaching, correction, and escalation
  • Drives a culture of zero rework, ensuring installations are completed right the first time
  • Ensures all work is installed in accordance with drawings, specifications, and standards
  • Verifies completeness and quality of installations prior to turnover to P&C and testing teams
  • Collaborates daily with P&C Supervisor to align sequencing, readiness, and access
  • Coordinates with Engineering, Operations, and adjacent teams to resolve issues and maintain progress
  • Monitors crew productivity and takes corrective action to address inefficiencies
  • Ensures accurate redlines, documentation, and turnover packages are complete and timely
  • Leads union crews while maintaining accountability for safety, performance, and discipline
  • Provides cross-coverage for peer supervisors to ensure continuity of execution
  • Other Duties as assigned

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS

  • Bachelor’s degree in Construction Management, Engineering, or related field or equivalent knowledge or skills obtained through a combination of education, training, and experience.
  • 5+ years of experience in a Large electrical utility environment with knowledge in design, construction, and commissioning of electric utility systems, equipment and components or an equivalent combination of education and experience. Preferred experience to be in substation construction.
  • Experience developing work plans and leading teams.
  • Bilingual, Spanish and English is preferred.

TRAVEL REQUIRED: The position will be location in Puerto Rico. 30% Travel across Puerto Rico.

WORKING CONDITIONS:

  • This position requires regular presence in both office settings and active construction field environments, including outdoor job sites subject to variable weather and terrain conditions.
  • Must be able to traverse rough or uneven terrain and access energized or de-energized construction work zones in compliance with all applicable safety protocols and personal protective equipment requirements.
  • Must be able to travel and work extended hours, including evenings and weekends, during critical project phases or in response to emergent field conditions.
